FEE Forschungsinstitut für mineralische und metallische Werkstoffe, Edelsteine/Edelmetalle GmbH (FEE), Germany

The Team of the Forschungsinstitut für mineralische und metallische Werkstoffe, Edelsteine/Edelmetalle GmbH specializes in crystal growth and manufacturing of optical elements for laser applications. FEE is an SME and a leading manufacturer of laser crystals (Nd:YAG, Er:YAG, CrTm:Ho:YAG, Yb:YAG, Nd:Cr:GSGG, Nd:YVO4, Nd:YAlO3, Yb:SrYBO, Yb:KYW), Faraday rotators (TGG), saturable absorbers (Cr4+:YAG, Co2+:MgAl2O4) and nonlinear crystals (KNbO3, BiB3O6, Fe:LiNbO3, BaTiO3, BCT). FEE was established in 1990 by the Bundesland of Rheinland-Pfalz as part of economic revitalization measures. It is run as a GmbH, with presently 30 employees and a turnover of 2.2 Mio € in 2002. FEE has been continuously profitable since 1996. The workforce of FEE is distributed among crystal growth, optical polishing and optical testing. As part of its research activity, FEE is currently involved in two major national programmes on the growth and characterization of novel laser and nonlinear materials. It has recently completed two European Community funded programmes on piezoelectric and laser single crystals.
